I met John in 1986, while shooting the film “Curse of the Blue Lights”. We instantly bonded, and we’ve been friends ever since. He had SOOO many friends. Not acquaintances… true friends. And how could you not? John was one of the most genuine people I’ve ever known. The man you saw, was the man he was. He had a great sense of humor. Everyone who ever shook their heads and chuckled at his eye-rolling, corny jokes knows that. John was a big kid, with a big heart. He loved traveling across the country to ride rollercoasters. He loved old horror movies and his basement was a testament to that. He loved the theatre. From England and Broadway to Pueblo community theatre, John had a passion for “the boards”. He was a trivia pro and enjoyed trivia nights at the local pubs. John loved and supported his community, serving as a police officer and eventually Deputy Chief for decades! It was his passion. He also sat on several Boards of Directors, including the Impossible Players and the Pueblo Zoo where he was drawn with his love of animals. John loved his dogs like nobody I’ve ever known. They were a big part of his big heart. He enjoyed the local Mexican places and was a bit addicted to smothered enchiladas that physically made him sweat! John was also a mentor to several kids in Pueblo and was like a second father to my two boys (David and Ryan) who both followed in his footsteps to become respected police officers in their own right. Like everyone who had the pleasure and honor of knowing John, we will all have fond memories of John that will last our entire lives. I can’t express how much I will miss this man. His energy, his integrity, his friendship… and even his corny jokes. I will miss you forever John. May you rest in peace and love among the angels. Give Jeannine a hug for me. ❤️
