May 20, 1933 ~ June 20, 2024

Born in: Blackwell, Oklahoma
Resided in: Pueblo, Colorado

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear mother, Wilma Erlene Bard, on June 20, 2024 at the age of 91.

She was born May 20, 1933, in Blackwell, Oklahoma where she grew up and met her husband, the late Eugene Dwight Bard. When Eugene returned from serving in the Korean war, together they moved to Pueblo, Colorado where they raised their four children. Wilma completed her Bachelor’s degree at Southern Colorado State College, earned a Master’s degree from Adams State College, and had a very successful teaching career in Pueblo School District 60.

Her retirement years were full of kindness and beauty. She served as chairwoman of the Wesley UMC Estate Sales Committee; volunteered as a docent at the Rosemount Museum; and most importantly, she quilted. She was truly a skilled artist in her quilting. Her masterful, intricate creations will be cherished and enjoyed by her loved ones for years to come.

Preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Eugene Dwight Bard; and her son, Rodford Gene Bard.  She is survived by her children, Ron (Brigitte) Bard, Cindy Bard (John) Ready, Julie Bard (Greg) Boyce; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.  She is also survived by her sisters, Kathryn Farris (John) Morgan, and Reta Farris (Ed) Ersfeldt. She held firmly to her faith in God. We will miss her smile and the twinkle in her eye.

A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 85 Stanford Ave. Pueblo, CO on Friday, July 26, 2024, at 1pm.

  2. CandleImageWilma will be very much missed. I’ve known her since I became a member of Wesley Church in 2009. My husband Howard has known her since the time he was in school and was friends with her son Rod. I was in the Choir with Wilma for several years. We both sang soprano and helped each other stay on key. She has been an example of what it means to be a devoted child of God. She helped me strengthen my own faith in God just by being around her. Just in the past year she reached out to me because she had so much quilting fabric and thought I would like to have some of it. I am very thankful for what she gave to me. Now when I am working with some of it, I feel blessed to have known her and will remember her with fondness. I am sorry that I won’t be able to attend the memorial service and pay my respects because I will be having surgery the day before the service.
Wilma and her family will continue to be in my prayers for a long time to come. I will miss her.

  3. My sincere condolences to all the family and friends.
Wilma was one of the 1st I met at the Wesley Estate Sales, it was her along with others from the original founders of the ministry, is the reason I started attending Wesley and hoping with the sales. Wilma was not only an outstanding mentor, she was active and involved in her church.
    RIP Wilma
