Richard Merril Holmes Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Richard Merril Holmes Jr. Richard passed away in his home during the week of July 15th, 2024,   at the age of 62. His children, Irene and Ian, will lovingly remember him, as will his sister Carina (Mike) and their children. He will also be missed by many other friends. Richard was preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents, Mary Bernice and Richard.

Richard was born in Santa Monica, California, on January 16th, 1962. He often told stories of his childhood hood, spending time at amusement parks around California and his family’s Cabin on the Lake. Eventually, Richard ended up in Pueblo, Colorado, where he helped raise his children. He enjoyed watching his daughter sing, and his son play hockey.

Richard was involved in many things around Pueblo. He was the Pueblo Ice Arena DJ for the Pueblo Bulls, County Hornets, and many other youth hockey teams. Richard enjoyed amateur radio. He received a special Extra class license, and he would make daily weather reports.

Richard loved sharing his knowledge with others and would always have a fact to share or something to teach to anyone who would listen.

His service will be held at the Pueblo Ice Arena and Events Center, 100 N. Grand Ave., in Pueblo, on September 8th, 2024, at 1 pm.

  1. CandleImageI remember when I first announced my book “Titanic: The Brothers Peracchio-Two Boys and a Dream.” At the time, the untold story of my uncles-in-law, a crew member on the Titanic, was revealed. Richard was one of the first to comment on it. He congratulated me on the book’s release, and we chatted on Facebook for quite some time that evening. We became instant friends, and I enjoyed talking with him.
Thank you, Richard, for your knowledge and your friendship.

  2. CandleImageSuch an amazing guy. When I was a figure skater, and worked at the ice arena, we always had conversations and he’d tell me about his radio days. Always loved our chats. Sending his family so much comfort and lots of prayers right now.

  3. CandleImageI spoke with him often through the RMS Titanic community. He was always looking out for others and being there for others; even if it’s just being a listening ear.

He was a good friend and a good soul. He will be missed greatly in the Titanic community. God bless you, Sir.

  4. CandleImageSuch a nice man. I would see him all the time at the ice arena as my grandson plays for the Pueblo Bulls. Loved his m.c. styles. The music he chose. Kind kind man. He will be missed very much. RIP Sir.

    • CandleImageRichard was instrumental for many years in helping with the Titanic Book Club, he helped with all things technical and created our logos. We lost touch when his games kept him busy. Richard had a kind heart and an incredible sense of humor. My condolences to his children and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Richard. 💕 You were a good man.

  5. This year has been a difficult one. Too many losses in my family and friends. Richard was indeed a kindred spirit. We shared so many interests, cars, trucks, boats of all sizes, steam and diesel locomotives, aircraft, old radios, old music, old movies, old theater shows, computers, electronics. Everything. We often talked for hours. I’ll feel his absence for a long time but his memory will bring pleasant thoughts and smiles, I’m certain. Sincere condolences to his family and his friends and colleagues in the many venues he was involved in.
