Walsenburg, Colorado
Resided in:
Pueblo, Colorado
Lorraine B. Tibbs of Pueblo, Colorado, age 80, died surrounded by love at her home in Sunset Park on April 4th, 2024.
Beloved wife of Robert Tibbs, loving mother of Robert (Terri) and Sean Tibbs. Doting grandmother to Brittany (Joe) Stadterman, Brooke (Curtis) Hallweaver, Cole (Sara) Tibbs, Taryn and Nick Tibbs. Proud great-grandmother to Landon, Mason, Ella Rae, Sloane and Hallie. Survived by her siblings, Connie (Steve) Lumpka and Leroy Garbiso; Aunt Nora Carlson; and many additional nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Bernice Garbiso; her sister, Marie (Phillip) Pacheco; and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Tibbs.
The third of four children, Lorraine Bernadette was born in Walsenburg, CO on March 22nd, 1944. She grew up 5 miles North of Walsenburg at the end of Red Rock Road, which was the Del Carbon Coal Mine homestead.
At a drive-in restaurant in Denver in 1963, carhop Lorraine met the love-of-her life and husband of 60 years, Robert Tibbs. They settled in Pueblo, CO where they raised their two boys and cultivated a community of life-long friends and neighbors. Lorraine climbed the ranks at World Savings/ American Federal, dedicating over 30 years of her sharp, quick intellect and intrinsic numerical knowledge to the company and her loyal clients. She drove fast in brightly colored Camaros and was a fierce short-stop, playing and traveling with her husband Bob’s softball team.
She loved feeding her friends and family. Going to Lorraine’s house meant you’d be ultimately cared for in substance and soul. She was an absolute natural in the kitchen, whipping up breakfast, her signature tortillas, enchiladas, green and red chile, and broccoli and rice. Her kitchen and garage were often filled with lady friends who would coalesce to can tomatoes, make Italian cookies, peel roasted green chiles, and solve issues of the heart. Lorraine was the epicenter of her friends and family, a magnetic force of strength, a good listener, a generous spirit, and just plain fun to be around. Lorraine laughed a lot and made others do the same with her open candor. Even in her final days, she still wanted to make sure her loved ones “got a plate”.
With an adventurous spirit and mischievous grin, Lorraine didn’t sit still for long. She traveled to Denmark, Mexico, New York City, Nashville, Sedona and throughout the country (with Las Vegas being a primary and favorite stop). She loved the Tibbs Family Reunions held in California and Illinois, fitting right in with Bob’s 12 brothers and sisters. She never missed a sporting event or concert for her grandkids and was the one to call if you wanted a confidant to get into or out of trouble. She was a prolific blanket-maker, an excellent card player, and was respected and beloved at any place she frequented. In her later years, Bob and Lorraine enjoyed quiet summers near Blue Mesa Reservoir with their sweet bulldog, Lilly.
Lorraine was the matriarch of the Tibbs family. She lived fully and freely, and in the end, fearlessly, knowing Jesus in her heart.
A service will be held on Friday, April 19th, 2024, at 10am at Pueblo First Church of the Nazarene, 84 Stanford Avenue, Pueblo, CO 81005 to honor her beautiful life and legacy.

Kathy and Chuck Martinez,
Bob , We cannot find the words to truly express our sorrow for your loss. Our hearts hurt so much for you Beatle, Shawn, Terri and the rest of your family. Lorraine was truly one of a kind, fun, crazy, caring and most of all just a damn good person. Kathy and I were reminiscing about the good old days and laughing our butts off on some of the stuff we used to do. We attended the services, and it was beautiful. We did not visit the reception as I had a doctor’s appointment at the VA. We are truly sorry we could not express our sorrow in person. Please tell the kids we are keeping them along with you in our prayers. Lorraine will be missed by so many people and what a remarkable legacy she has left. If we could ever do anything for you or the kids, please let us know.
We Love you all.

My heart and prayers to the Tibbs family. I was a senior in high school when I met Lorraine at Columbia Savings. I was in a program to teach graduating seniors about business and business life. Lorraine took me under her wing and taught me everything, good and bad. Her smile, laugh and caring spirit I will always remember.
Great tribute to a life well lived, she had such an infectious smile! After sitting with Lorraine and Bob at a Christmas Dinner where Paula and Lorraine talked about Christmas cookies, Monday morning, Lorraine delivered a plate of of her homemade Christmas goodies to the office for me to take to Paula! We certainly felt her love! I’m sure she heard the words we all want to hear from Jesus, “Well done good and faithful servant”!
God Bless the Tibbs Family
I had the pleasure of coaching Lorraine along with her sisters Connie and Marie. Lorraine was my shortstop with the women’s slow pitch softball team. She made some amazing plays at shortstop. Me and her husband Bob were able to win several tournaments. She was loved by all her teammates. I will never forget her laugh and smile. I enjoyed going over to visit her and Bob having a cup of coffee and having a nice visit. Rest In Peace Lorraine. I will never forget you.
Lee and I are so sorry to hear of your loss of your Lorraine. I enjoyed working with Lorraine at American Federal Savings and I can still remember her wonderful laugh whenever we were in meetings together. We can only imagine your loss and you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
With love,
Ruth and Lee Hughes
Friday night lights were a joyous time filled with her laughter. She taught me to bake, sew, canning and so much more. She loved me, my family and my babies like we were her family. She was an incredible example of THE MATRIARCH and I know my family and so many others are better for knowing her. You are so loved and will be so missed Lorrainey. My heart is with everyone she touched.
Lorraine was a beautiful, giving and sassy soul. We loved every moment spent with her and the family. We know she’s in paradise, giving the angels one heck of a time. XOXO The Anderson’s

May the light of Gods love shine on Lorraine and your family. Our deepest condolences to you. There will never be another Lorraine
Lorraine. I’m definitely gonna miss not having you here to holler at me through the window when I’m getting my trailer ready for a trip asking where we are going and to be safe and have fun. Or having some of the best damn tortillas in the land. I’m gonna miss trading smoked fish and barbecue for your tortillas. You were the best neighbor and friend anyone could ask for. Thank you for all your kindness and love that you shared with me, Cat and the boys. In the meantime we will be here hanging out with Bob laughing at the stories and remembering the wonderful person you are.
See you later alligator..
Rest in peace my dear dear friend! We had some fun times together some i will never forget ❤️
Condolences to Bob, Beatle, Shawn and the entire Tibbs family. Lorraine loved you so deeply.
She will be missed terribly.
