Kathryn Louise Abbate, 98, passed away on June 23, 2023. She was born August 2, 1924, in Pueblo, Colo. to Louis and Angela (Blazina) Vidic. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Abbate in 1993; her parents; grandparents, Katherine and Andrew Blazina, and John and Ursula Vidic; brother, Louis Vidick; in-laws, Tony and Annie Abbate; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Rose and John Costanza, Ann Vidick, Santo and Betty Abbate, Josephine and David Goolsby and Mary Anne Abbate.
She is survived by her children, Peggy (Roger) Wallace, Janet (Raymond) Williams, and Patti Abbate. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was educated in Pueblo schools and graduated from Central High in 1942. She retired as a loan supervisor from Pueblo Teachers Credit Union in 1988 after 30 years of service. Prior to that, she worked for Districts 20 and 60. She served on the Credit Union’s supervisory committee and as an officer on the Board of Directors. Kathryn was a member and officer of the Sunsational Chapter of Credit Professionals. She was selected as Associate Credit Executive by the International Professional Credit Association in 1987. She received many awards within this organization for her years of service in the credit field. Kathryn and Joe were members of St. Patrick’s Church, and she served as a member of the lay council. They were also members of the Boots and Calico Square Dance Club. At the time of her death, she was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church.
Kathryn loved music, although she was not a musician herself but she made sure all three daughters had piano lessons. As she liked to say, she played the radio. She always offered to wash the dishes after dinner just so the girls would go play the piano for her. Her best radio playing was on Sunday morning, listening to the Slovenian Radio Hour. She passed on her Slovenian heritage by making potica and pohanje for every holiday or special occasion. After getting married, she learned to cook like her Sicilian mother-in-law so that Joe always had the flavors of his heritage as well. Most of all, it was always clear that she was the boss in charge.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. Mary Help of Christians Church, 307 E. Mesa Ave. Internment at Roselawn Cemetery.
Those who desire may make memorials to the Pueblo Carousel Association, c/o Montgomery & Steward Funeral Directors.

You were quite the active and honored young lady during your career. We had the pleasure of seeing you at many family celebrations over the years. Your cooking was so delicious, especially the pizzelles you baked for the weddings. You raised a wonderful and loving family, and you will be missed.
