Joanne Marie Urban

Joanne Marie Urban, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on April 14, 1954, in San Diego, CA, she was the daughter of George and Anna Dewey.

Joanne was known for her generosity, radiant smile, and strong work ethic. She dedicated her life to working with children in special education and resource classrooms, making a profound impact on many lives. Outside of the classroom, her love for sewing was a source of joy and creativity that touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her three children- Ryan Anthony Urban, Jonathan Thomas Urban, and Nicole Marie Urban; 4 grandchildren (with a 5th on the way), 2 brothers, 1 sister, and countless friends.

Joanne was predeceased by her parents (George Stanley Dewey and Anna Marie Dewey) and 2 of her brothers- Patrick Dewey and Michael Dewey.

Joanne dedicated her career to teaching and helping children of all ages, learning levels, and abilities. Joanne was also one incredible seamstress. Joanne loved to garden, cook, sew, swim, and watch true crime shows.

Joanne will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.”

A service will be held in the Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery (4470 Hilltop Drive, San Diego, CA 92102) on 11/09/2024 at 10am PST with a reception/celebration of life to immediately follow. Please bring your favorite photos of Joanne and some unforgettable memories to share.
