Howard Donald “Don” Gibbs, 88, passed away on March 2, 2024. Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Gibbs; daughter, Kasey Gibbs (Eric Wolter); son, Douglas (Susan) Gibbs; and grandchildren, Brycen, Nareese, and Nathaniel Gibbs.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dashiel Gibbs.

Donald was born and raised in the Durango, Colo. area. He worked for the Denver and Rio Grand Rail Road, starting on the narrow gauge steam train in Durango, and retired 32 years later as Road Foreman of Equipment, Southern Pacific in Pueblo. He was an active member and past president of NARVE, Pachyderm Club, the Rio Grande Railroad Vets Club #6, and Better Breather. He also served on the Board of the American Lung Association of Colorado and the Citizen Advisory Committee of the Chemical Depot. He served his country for 2 years and was in the National Guard for another 6 years.
