Frederick J Kottenstette III, 82, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away June 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Kottenstette; daughters, Angela Rivera, Elizabeth Kottenstette; sons, Andrew Kottenstette, Benjamin (Noelia) Kottenstette, Matt (Angie) Kottenstette, Alfred (Christin) Kottenstette, and David Kottenstette; sisters Donna (Tony) Verderaime, Mary Rita (Troy) Davenport; brothers, Karl (Anne Marie) Kottenstette, Richard (Debbie) Kottenstette, Dennis (Donna) Kottenstette, Joe (Eileen) Kottenstette, and Kevin (Janelle) Kottenstette; sisters-in law, Rose Locke, Becky Verner, Marge Thompson, and Bertha Martinez; brother-in law, Robert Ordaz; also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Rita Kottenstette; sister, Caroline Kottenstette; brother, Kurt Kottenstette; grandson, Robert Kottenstette.
Fred was born on August 2, 1941, in Pueblo, Colorado. He attended Central High School and met the love of his life, Helen, who attended Centennial High School. They married in 1960 at Sacred Heart and started their adventure as Fred entered the United States Air Force. After his discharge, the couple returned to Pueblo to raise their family. Fred had a long career working for the city as a painter and eventually started his own painting company with his sons. He continued to work hard until he was 80 years old.
Fred was a member of Holy Family Parish for 60 years. He cherished the friendships he found there. He loved his family, his faith, running, handball, and watching wrestling, basketball and baseball.

  4. Very sorry to see this. Fred & I went way back playing very competitive handball at the YMCA. He was such a warrior on the court…hated to lose. Because of the handball we became very good friends. What a loss!!
    My condolences to the entire Kottenstette family.

  5. Fred was a great guy, I always enjoyed the stories he would tell when we were driving to and from our men’s group meetings. I will miss him. Hellen and family are all in my thoughts and prayers.
