Born in:
Los Sauces, Colorado
Resided in:
Pueblo, Colorado
Emma Moore, 87, a beautiful and gentle soul was born Oct. 29, 1935, to Edmundo and Annie Martinez, and passed away on Sept. 12, 2023.
Growing up in Los Sauces, Colo., a small village near the Rio Grande River in the San Luis Valley, provided her with experiences and opportunities few will ever enjoy.
One set of grandparents lived on the Northern side of the one-road community and another set on the Southern edge, with aunts, uncles, and a bevy of other relatives in between. Emma loved it that if she didn’t care for what was being served at one house, she could head to the other grandparents for dinner.
In her early years, her parents relocated to Vineland, Colo., just east of Pueblo, where she was proud to be a member of the first graduating class at PCHS. After graduation, Emma worked at the Pueblo Army Depot, where she met her husband James. After taking several years off to raise her family, she returned to work at the Public Documents Distribution Center.
Emma is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James “Jim” Moore; parents, Edmundo and Annie; a baby brother, her sister, Priscilla Hudak; brothers-in-law, Michael and Timothy Moore; Regis Hudak and sister-in-law, Manuelita Martinez.
Survived by; her children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Moore and Kelly Moore; brothers, Orlando (Karon) Martinez, Ulfredo (Millie) Martinez, and Ed (Jan) Martinez; sisters-in-law, Colleen Farmer and Pat (Ron) Lucier; grandchildren, Brandon (Mari Morales) Moore, Jennifer (Daniel) Hanten, and Aailyah and Zeiryah (Moser) Moore; great-grandchildren, Daniel Hanten III and Adrienne Morales-Moore. Emma also embraced Donna Garcia as her own daughter and loved Donna’s children as her own Carleen (William) Payne and their daughter, Ezra.
You were a stranger only once to Emma and that was a brief moment. Her loving and caring presence made each person feel special.
Emma was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Therese Church, a volunteer with Sangre de Cristo Hospice, and was “corporate mom” to the team at G&G Consulting.
Our hearts are shattered and we will miss her deeply, but we continue on with the Grace of God and our belief that we are not saying goodbye, but rather, we will see you again when we reunite in Heaven.

My Condolences to the whole family. Aunt Annie and Emma were like second and third Moms to us Archuleta kids growing up. We lived just down the road from them in Vineland. It is so hard to lose your Mom and Sister and Grandma in one wonderful lady. Jim and Emma were wonderful people. Brandon much love to you Bro. God Bless you all.
I met Emma many years ago when teaching at Vineland Elementary. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work with both Jeffrey and Kelly. Emma was a delightful, supportive parent and a joy to know. My prayers are for all of Emma’s family to be held tightly in God’s arms as He welcomes Emma into His heavenly kingdom. May the memories of family times and better days give comfort to all also! Hugs and love to all.
My Condolences to the Moore, Hanten and Martinez Families. May she Rest in Peace.
