Elayne Scheck, 85, passed away on Oct. 1, 2023. She is survived by her children, Beth Zimmerman, Jon Scheck, and Tobi Scheck; her brother, Maynard (Midge) Tischler; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rose Tischler; and twin babies.
Elayne was born on Oct. 31, 1937, in Syracuse, New York. As a single parent with three small children, Elayne earned her RN degree. Later she received two Masters, one in Geriatric Nursing and one in Psych Nursing, and was a professor at Scranton University. After moving to Colorado, Elayne ran Parkview Hospital’s adult and geriatric psych units for 15 years and has been the keynote speaker at the Colorado Association of Nurses.
She loved being in the mountains and enjoyed camping. She could spend hours in bookstores. She loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She spent her life caring for people and ensuring everyone was treated with kindness and respect. She lived by her motto: “Unconditional Positive Regard”
As the Director of Case Management for Colorado Bluesky Enterprises, I worked with Elayne for many years while she worked for Parkview’s psychiatric wards.
She was an integral member of our Developmental Disabilities/ Mental Health Consortium. We met monthly at CMHIP to develop community plans for individuals in our catchment area.
Recently, she also lived in our apartments in Pueblo at Presbyterian Towers. We chatted often.
She was a wonderful lady and I’m sorry to hear of her passing.
May she rest in peace and power!
My condolences to the family.
