Edna Marie Thalhamer, 92, of Pueblo, Colo., passed away in peace on February 3, 2024, surrounded by those who loved and cared for her deeply. Edna was born on January 23, 1932, in Lincoln, NE. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1949, Edna enrolled in the University of Nebraska as an Education major to begin her lifelong dream of teaching young children. After graduating from NU in 1953, she moved to Pueblo, Colorado where she began teaching kindergarten at Morton Elementary School. This is where she met the love of her life Everett Thalhamer, whom she married in 1954. Throughout her 30-year teaching career, Edna also taught at Ben Franklin Elementary School as the school’s first kindergarten teacher and at Belmont and Sunset Park Elementary Schools. In August 2023, she participated in the ribbon cutting of the new Ben Franklin School of Innovation, an event she greatly felt honored to be a part of as she participated in the school’s first ribbon cutting in 1954.
Edna greatly enjoyed volunteering her time in the Pueblo community. She served as President of Belmont Women’s Club, helping to get the first library started in the Belmont area. She was an active 50+ yr member of Chapter C.I. P.E.O., an active member of First United Methodist Church of Pueblo, 50 yr member of Rosemount Museum Auxiliary, an honorary 30 yr member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and a member of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association.
As busy as she was raising her family with Everett and serving faithfully in the community, she was able to find time to volunteer at Parkview & St. Mary Corwin Hospitals, participate in several bridge groups, and enjoy regular lunches and chats with her close friends. After she retired, you could find Edna enjoying her European trips abroad as well as traveling around the United States with Everett. In her later years, she and Everett enjoyed spending their retirement with friends on Caribbean, Mexican & Hawaiian cruises and in Cripple Creek, Colo., Laughlin, Las Vegas & Reno, Nev. with friends Dick & Gloria Elm as well as in Chandler, Ariz. with her family.
Edna’s parents, Adam and Marie Schneider; five brothers, Alvin, Richard, Harry, Edward, and Leonard; husband, Everett; son, Mark; grandson, Craig; several sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law preceded her in death.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Lori Dohse (Dave); son, Kurt Thalhamer; sister, Dorothy Jensen; daughter-in-law, Jacqui Thalhamer; grandson, Anthony Thalhamer (Cassie); granddaughter, Kira Dohse; grandsons, John (Monica) and Tim (Krystal) Shoffeitt; granddaughter, Janette Steinbrugger (Dan); and numerous loving nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. No amount of time with Edna would have been enough for her family and friends.
Edna touched the lives of many young students and she greatly enjoyed seeing those students as they grew older and became adults in the community. Edna’s legacy that remains is in the hearts of her family, friends, fellow teachers, and all of the students she taught through the years.
There will be a celebration of life held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 17, 2024, at First United Methodist Church of Pueblo. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to First United Methodist Church of Pueblo or Sangre de Cristo Community Care. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com

I’m very sorry for your loss. She was an amazing teacher at Belmont. Though I was never in her class I always was greeted by her with a smile. She was one of a kind and I am lucky to have known her.
I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. She was a warm wonderful person with a love for children She taught both of our girls at Belmont Elementary. I would see her mostly at the grocery store and she would always ask about our girls and how they were doing. Our condolences.
I’m very sorry for your loss. Mrs. Thalhamer was a very lovely lady and I have nothing but fond memories of her.
Mrs. Thalhamer was one of my favorite teachers . I had her for 2nd grade at Belmont. My Mom saw her not too long ago in the Phoenix airport. What a wonderful teacher and strong, kind woman. Prayers for her family
