Dwight L. Dauphin

Dwight L. Dauphin, 86, of Pueblo, Colorado, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and respected business leader.
Son of William (Bill) and Christine Dauphin, Dwight was born on October 26, 1937, in Quinlan, OK. Dwight spent his youth as a member of the FFA and 4-H. His passion was raising cattle, which resulted in multiple Grand Champion Steer Awards. After graduating from Mooreland High School in 1955, he started a new chapter in Pueblo, CO. After relocating to Pueblo, he served honorably in the Army, achieving the rank of SGT while stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany, during the initiation of the Cold War. Upon returning to Pueblo, he worked for Cadwell Trucking, hauling cattle before opening his own Texaco filling station and garage. He was awarded the Commission Agent for Continental Oil Company (Conoco) in 1966, operating as Dauphin Oil Co. Even in his retirement, he continued pursuing his passion for long-haul trucking until he was 80.
Additionally, Dwight fulfilled the roles of beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He loved playing golf, big-game hunting, and watching baseball. Dwight spent his life dedicated to his family and doing right by others. He embodied doing the right thing, helping others without being asked, and did not seek recognition for his good deeds. Dwight taught his children and grandchildren how to be kind, respectful, and gracious to others.
At the heart of Dwight’s life was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Nancy; children Pamela Fuller, Vickie (Bob) Jagger, and David (Jamie) Dauphin; grandchildren Wesley Boucher, Jack and Noah Fuller, John and Maggie Jagger, Dane Dauphin, and sister Mary Cain.
A special thanks to Dwight’s Wednesday golf group and the bonds they created. He always looked forward to his favorite activity with his good friends: Mac Campbell, Roger Harper, Bill Jones, Lynn Phelps, Bob Drake, Larry Jensen, Bill Jagger, Chris Stjernholm, and Ed Mastro. The family also wishes to thank Karen and Ranae from Sangre de Cristo Hospice for their incredible care and support.
A viewing at Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel, 1317 N Main St., Pueblo, CO, will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A Graveside Service will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, 1706 Roselawn Road, Pueblo, CO, on Thursday, June 27, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to consider making a memorial contribution to the Colorado Springs Therapeutic Riding Center at www.cstrc.org.
A message from Dwight’s children:
Dad was an avid golfer, passionate about Baseball and Football, and a lifelong Bronco fan. He was a dedicated donor to 4-H and Big Game Hunting and greatly respected nature. Dad worked hard his entire life, as working hard was in his blood to pass on. He was an amazingly active man who enjoyed working and assisting others without request. He instilled kindness, integrity, and respect for others in his children and grandchildren. Never take advantage of others and always do the right thing for those in need; this was a personal and business practice. Dad had a habit of putting others before himself, possibly to a detriment. Dad always maintained his dry sense of humor and never lost the ability to laugh at himself. Throughout his life, he pursued the well-being of his family long before money and success. Dwight is the definition of an Honorable Hero to family and friends. He was a leader and teacher, a wealth of wisdom and insight; the rock everyone should have in their lives; we are the lucky ones. It is often asked how one will measure one’s life; Dad’s life is measured using yardsticks to count the miles. Dwight was a wonderful Dad and friend and will be missed deeply, but he will continue to live through his children and grandchildren.
