Bernadine M. “Bernie” Perko, 90, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025. Bernadine is predeceased by her husband Richard “Dick” Perko, her parents, Theodore and Margaret Selvage, brothers, Courtland and Leroy Selvage, and sister, Virginia Shepherd. “Nanny” is survived by her children Daniel R. (Laura) Perko of Colorado Springs and Margaret “Marge” (John) Simmer of Highlands Ranch; grandchildren Sara (Jonathan) Mills of Boulder, Stephanie Perko (David Tafoya) of Colorado Springs, Lindsey (William) Murray of Parker, Kristina (Lyle) Gallin of Colorado Springs and Jarred Simmer of Denver; sister Avon Young; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bernie retired from School District 60 and was blessed to enjoy numerous years as a retiree. Her many talents included the love of tennis, gardening, maintaining a beautiful yard and singing. Bernadine was a very talented singer and had the voice of an angel. She was a founding member of The Pueblo Chorale Society. Singing brought Bernie great joy, and she enjoyed two tours of Europe performing with The Pueblo Chorale. The highlight of Bernie’s singing career was performing and recording with The Pueblo Chorale at Carnegie Hall. Bernadine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her family was the most important aspect of her life. Bernie “Nanny’s” pride and joy were her grandchildren. Bernadine never knew a stranger and all who were blessed to know her were touched by her kindness, huge heart and loving spirit. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

Bernadine was married to my cousin. I haven’t seen her for years but I remember her being the nicest person in the world.
