Almon “Al” Monroe Carson Jr, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on January 1, 2024, at the age of 81. He is survived by wife of 58 years, Ginny Carson; Children: Kerri (Jay) Kent, Missy (John) McCurry and Amy (Tim) Decker; Grandchildren: Ryan Kent, Brady (Riley Faris) McCurry, Lacey McCurry, Lindsey McCurry, Bryn Decker, Alora Decker, Chance Decker, Dawson Decker and Catherine (Robbie) Greenwood; Sister, Sandra (Marty) Shedeck; Sisters-in-law, Joyce Witherell and Judy (Dave) Higginbottom as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Margaret Carson; Sister, Donna Joy Wright; and Brother, Sammie Carson.
He was born in Tulsa, OK on March 28, 1942. He earned a bachelors degree in Forestry from Oklahoma State University. Ginny and Al met when he was in the Navy and were married on July 2, 1965. He was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War.
He had a lifelong passion for woodworking and enjoyed entering his creations at the Pueblo County Fair and selling them at area craft fairs.
After retirement he enjoyed traveling around the country attending reunions with former crewmates of the USS Westchester County LST-1167.
He was a huge supporter of 4-H, lending his talent as a horse show announcer for many years. He enjoyed watching his daughters and then grandchildren compete with their various animals.
Their home became the retirement home for many cocker spaniel show dogs and he will be greatly missed by Rita and Nova.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the Montgomery & Steward Funeral Chapel. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Pueblo County 4-H Foundation. Online condolences, www.MontgomerySteward.com
