Dorothy Cora (Gomez) Wengert

Dorothy Cora (Gomez) Wengert, 99, was born on April 15 1925, in Badido a rural community near Walsenburg and passed away on February 12, 2025, at her home in Pueblo. She is survived by her children, Arthur Wengert and Barbara Jean (Gene) Goffin: and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband for 70 years, Efren A. Wengert; parents, Jose and Paulita Gomez.

Dorothy attended school in and around the Walsenburg area. The family later relocated to nearby Pueblo in 1942, where she graduated from Central High School in 1943. After graduation she worked in the dietary department at Corwin Hospital for two years before meeting Efren, her future husband of over 70 years, on a blind date. Dorothy and Efren were married in Pueblo in 1949 and they started their new family the following year.

Dorothy worked as a homemaker providing a loving home for her husband and two children, Arthur and Barbara Jean. Her support extended to other family members including her sister Martha and her father who lived in her home for eight years during the latter part of his life. Dorothy was renowned within the family for preparing legendary meals and was always a popular hostess during holidays and family gatherings.

After her two children had completed school and left home to build their own futures, Dorothy worked with her husband in his insurance business for 12 years until their retirement in 1988. She and her husband lived a comfortable retirement in their home until their last days.

Viewing, 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Service, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb.  18, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery.
